27 Days, 27 Players: The Tide Times Breaks Down the #1 Recruiting Class in the Nation via Rivals.com

By Dan Harralson

Day 6: Nico Johnson (LB - Andalusia, AL) Nico is a five-star recruit. He committed to the Tide on September 3, 2008 in the midst of Alabama's undefeated regular season. Johnson was recruited by James Willis and only went on one official campus visit (On January 16th.) He showed very low interest towards SEC West rivals Auburn and LSU. The other schools that showed interest were Ole Miss (Ron Dickerson), Southern Cal (Ken Norton Jr.), Tennessee, Texas A&M (Joe Kines - Former Bama DC), Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and Arizona State. Nico will fit in nicely at outside linebacker for the Tide. As a Sophomore in 2006, Johnson recorded 126 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries. In his Junior season, in only ten games, he recorded 70 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. 2008 showed Nico's best statistical season. He played both sides of the ball recording 10 receptions for 215 yards and 2 receiving touchdown's. On the defensive side of the ball he had 110 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception. There is no doubt the 6'3, 226 lb. linebacker will be a force for Coach Saban's defense in the near future.
